- Urbanwear giant Adidas to forge physical NFT shoes in the upcoming mint.
- Digital artist FEWOCiOUS makes a special blend of Adidas Campus 00s.
- Nike is still the leading Web3 fashion brand with $185M in NFT sales.
German urban and athletic wear powerhouse Adidas steps into the futuristic sneaker game in a similar manner to its rival, Nike – by reviving a classic shoe model. The Adidas Campus 00s has been given a unique approach by a young surrealist artist on a quest to merge the physical and virtual.
A Fusion of Realities with Campus 00s
According to the official announcement, the company’s commitment to innovation sparked the Campus 00s NFT collection. The product-linked Trefoil Flower Mint Passes are capped at 4,500 pieces.
To redeem the Flower Mint NFT for a real pair of sneakers, digital art collectors must obtain one via public sale for 0.25 ETH, equivalent to $435. The limited edition footwear, with shiny bright ribbon-style shoe laces, was created by the young NFT art star FEWOCiOUS, who’s made a name for himself by selling his life story through NFTs for a whopping $2.1 million.
Pop art, surrealism, and avant-garde fusion in the digital artist’s works drew the attention of prominent collectors in the sphere. The public was just as much interested in the young transgender artist’s story – “Hello, i’m Victor (FEWOCiOUS) and This Is My Life”, reads the description of the famed $2.1M NFT collection, with a very similar greeting embossed on the FEWOCiOUS official Twitter handle.
Can Adidas Outrun Nike?
Indeed, teaming up with an already successful NFT artist could provide the head start Adidas is looking for in bi-dimensional sneakers. Its rival Nike has already completed this step with the launch of RTFKT, their own subsidiary for next-generation sneakers. Recently, RTFKT skyrocketed in price after LeBron James had two solid nights against the Golden State Warriors.
In 2022, Nike made waves in the cryptosphere; topping $185 million in NFT sales. Even though the NFT mint was constantly followed by frustrated NFT enthusiasts experiencing bugs, Nike’s physical Air Force 1 NFT shoes emerged in March 2023 and were quickly sold out.
On The Flipside
- While the redemption period starts in August 2023, the first pair of bi-dimensional Adidas Campus 00s will be shipped only in September.
- So far, it’s unknown if Adidas will ship the NFT shoes to Europe, as the physical shoe mints on OpenSea could be limited to the United States.
