After the mixed performance of Saga, Solana Mobile unveiled its new device: Seeker. With 140,000 preorders already, here’s what we know about Seeker’s features.

Solana Seeker Brings New Features

On Wednesday, September 18, Solana Mobile announced Seeker, its second-generation Web3 phone. Originally unveiled as Saga Chapter Two, the phone has already received 140,000 preorders. Solana Mobile revealed that the phone will be released in 2025 and will feature a range of new features.

“We founded Solana Mobile with the mission of taking crypto mobile,” explained Solana Co-Founder Anatoly Yakovenko. “To achieve that, we needed to make Seeker more accessible and more affordable and for its hardware and software to be even more deeply integrated for web3,” he added.

Key Solana Seeker features include a Seed Vault Wallet, which will integrate natively into the device. This self-custodial Seed Vault will help users achieve a seamless experience when interacting with wallets. The phone will also feature improved hardware, with a relatively accessible presale price of $450.

Solana Seeker will also update its dApp store, which includes a new rewards tracker and improved discoverability for dApps.

Solana Saga Saw Mixed Reactions

The original Solana Saga saw mixed reactions and slow sales. By December 2023, Saga only sold about 2400 phones, just 10% of what Solana Mobile expected. On the other hand, tech reviewers ripped into the phone, calling it just an overpriced Android device.

Still, Saga made a surprising and unlikely turnaround. Namely, each Saga phone came bundled with BONK memecoins. After these memecoins jumped in price, they were worth more than the phones. This caused frenzied buying, and Saga sold out

It is unclear whether the preorders for Seeker are due to its Web3 features or speculation that it will also come with free tokens. In any case, even after it sold out, not many people talked about Saga’s Web3 features.

On the Flipside

  • Like Saga, Seeker will likely run on the Android operating system and be embedded in the Google ecosystem, with preinstalled apps like Gmail, YouTube, and the Google PlayStore.
  • About 80% of Saga users set up Web3 features and claimed the Saga Genesis token.

Why This Matters

Solana Mobile’s latest phone can potentially bring crypto to a broader audience. As billions of people use mobile devices, these are a natural platform for Web3 applications.
