  • Church of Smoking Chicken Fish is in turmoil.
  • Would-be pastor accused of rug pull.
  • Solana memecoins in focus for alleged scams.

In a world where thousands of Solana memecoins launch every day, projects are doing everything to get attention. This reached absurd levels with one token, the Church of Smoking Chicken Fish. This project evolved from a memecoin into a would-be church, with a pastor and plans to build a physical worship site.

This absurdist religion is now facing controversy and infighting. Namely, โ€œcongregationโ€ members have accused its leader of enriching himself at the expense of others and rugging the project.

Church of Smoking Chicken Fish Ousts Pastor

Church of Smoking Chicken Fish (SCF), a satirical memecoin project turned church, is now in turmoil. Its leader, Pastor Kelby, is facing accusations of enriching himself at the expense of the community and organizing a rug pull.

Kelby, who was not the original member of the Church of Smoking Chicken Fish, took on the leadership role. He hosted daily Twitter sermons to its followers in the name of โ€œLord Fishnu,โ€ the churchโ€™s humorous deity. At its height, SCF reached a market cap of $130 million, and the team even had plans to build a physical church in Texas.

The controversy began when Kelby used his account to promote another memecoin, BigTittyChicken (BTC). Kelby, who didnโ€™t own any SCF tokens, claimed BTC memecoin would be its โ€œsister project”. One SCF insider, @Crypt0Rebirth, told DailyCoin that they did not know anything about BTC before Kirby announced it.

“No doubt some of our holders sought to buy โ€˜the next scfโ€™ after they saw Kelby rubber stamp it,” @Crypt0Rebirth told DailyCoin. However, Kirby dumped his allocation of 10 million tokens, or 1% of the total supply, in just three transactions. According to @Crypt0Rebirth, this caused BTC to tank, and the token still hasn’t recovered.

The losses to regular holders caused turmoil among the Church of Smoking Chicken Fish community. Its members ousted Kerby, accusing him of taking a personal payout from promoting the since-rugged BigTittyChicken memecoin.

Solana Memecoins Face Ongoing Controversy

Church of Smoking Chicken Fish (SCF) is just one of many Solana-based memecoins facing controversy. The ease of launching tokens on Solana invites both inexperienced and unscrupulous characters to the space.

Notably, the Solana-based Pump.fun platform enables anyone to launch a memecoin with minimal effort. Consequently, politicians, celebrities, niche influencers, and scammers are all launching their own Solana memecoins.

The performance of these tokens is far from desirable. For instance, in July all recently-launched celebrity memecoins were massively down, with an average loss of 94%.

On the Flipside

  • Memecoin exposure is starting to become a risk for Solana. As memecoins lose steam, so do Solanaโ€™s metrics.
  • TRON recently joined the memecoin trend with its own platform similar to Pump.fun; SunPump.

Why This Matters

The Church of Smoking Chicken Fish incident highlights a broader issue with memecoins. The accessibility of memecoin launches is attracting some players who often donโ€™t have what it takes to run a successful project.
