  • Polygon co-founder Sandeep Nailwal hinted at a potential airdrop for Polygon zkEVM users in the future.
  • Nailwal commented on the vast gap between Polygon zkEVM and zkSync Era TVLs.
  • The crypto community reacted largely positively to Nailwal’s comments.

Airdrop farming is getting more popular by the day. Recently, Ethereum Layer-2 projects have been the primary target of airdrop farmers.

Some suggest that that’s the main reason activity on Layer-2s is fake or, at best, superficial. Polygon co-founder Sandeep Nailwal has recently responded to such comments and even indicated that Polygon might do a “massive” airdrop to incentivize activity.

Polygon Co-Founder Says Polygon Could Do ‘Massive’ Airdrop

Polygon zkEVM, Polygon’s scaling solution that uses zero-knowledge proofs to scale Ethereum, launched a few months ago. Since then, it has managed to grow its total value locked (TVL) to $9 million, according to data from L2beat.com.

However, Polygon zkEVM’s TVL is low compared to other zero-knowledge rollups. For example, zkSync Era, launched around the same time as Polygon zkEVM, has $261 million in TVL.

A user on Twitter pointed out the huge gap between the two zkEVM projects a few days when Polygon zkEVM’s TVL was still at $2.2 million. They asked: “Is this what happens when there’s no new token to farm?”

Surprisingly, Polygon zkEVM co-founder Sandeep Nailwal responded to the criticism with his own tweet.

In the tweet, Nailwal said that Arbitrum, another Ethereum scaling project, took “more than a year to fully blossom” and that Polygon is “getting ready for a big boost with critical infrastructure deployments.”

However, the spiciest thing that Nailwal said is related to airdrops. He hinted at a possible Polygon zkEVM airdrop by saying, “There is no rule that an existing token can’t do a massive airdrop.”

After Nailwal’s comments, TVL on Polygon zkEVM spiked a few hundred percent as the community started looking for ways to be eligible for a possible airdrop.

Community Reacts to Polygon Co-Founder’s Airdrop Comments

The crypto community reacted positively to Nailwal’s comments about a possible airdrop by Polygon zkEVM.

One user encouraged “farmers and airdrop chasers” to farm for the airdrop.

Another user said they wouldn’t “fade Sandeep” and would use Polygon zkEVM to get potential rewards.

However, not everyone reacted positively to Nailwal’s comments. One user said that Nailwal is “desperate” and that going to Twitter to hint around an airdrop is “quite low.”

On the Flipside

  • There are no guarantees that Polygon will do an airdrop. Users should do their own research before deciding to put their capital at risk.

Why You Should Care

Polygon is one of the most popular blockchains in the industry. Users should be wary of any Polygon airdrop scams going around Twitter and other social media platforms.
