  • Solana Mobile unveils Chapter 2, surpassing Saga’s sales.
  • Thirty thousand units were preordered within 30 hours.
  • New device offers unique ecosystem rewards for developers

After the moderate success of its inaugural product, Saga, Solana Mobile is gearing up for its latest offering, Chapter 2. The new release is already reaching an enthusiastic audience.

With a staggering 30,000 preorders in just 30 hours, Chapter 2 has gotten the attention of crypto enthusiasts.

Chapter 2 Gains Record Preorders, Surpasses Saga

Solana Mobile announced Chapter 2 on January 18, 2024, propelling the company into the limelight. The device saw immediate success, with 30,000 users paying the $450 deposit within 30 hours of the announcement.

Chapter 2 will have most of Saga’s features, including the Android-based OS, crypto wallet, Seed Vault, and the dApp store. It will also have updated hardware compared to Saga.

Beyond these, Chapter 2 is set to establish a more robust developer ecosystem. The device will entice developers and users with potential rewards and incentives. This is Solana’s way of promoting an ecosystem of apps for users to take advantage of.

Solana Mobile has not yet revealed the device’s cost once it becomes available, likely in 2025. However, they are aiming for the deposit to cover the cost of the device, “excluding taxes, shipping, and fees.”

Saga Sells Out After Slow Initial Reach

Chapter 2’s preorder success starkly contrasts with the initial performance of its predecessor, Saga. Its sales initially faltered until Solana’s memecoin, BONK, started surging. Notably, Saga was bundled with 30 million tokens, making the phone an attractive investment.

At one point, the value of the bundled BONK tokens exceeded the Saga’s cost. This effectively turned the tide in Saga’s favor and led to its eventual sell-out.

It is unclear whether Chapter 2’s buyers are interested in the device or the potential crypto, NFTs, or memecoins it might be bundled with. So far, there is little information about what tokens will come with Chapter 2. For instance, Solana Mobile confirmed that the Saga Genesis Token will only be available for Saga users. However, they claim they will build a similar experience for Chapter 2.

On the Flipside

  • The device’s pricing is not currently clear, nor will users who preordered have to pay more on launch day.
  • Solana Mobile did not detail the advantages for those preordering the device now, compared to preorders at later stages or buying the device once it’s available for sale.

Why This Matters

The rapid preorder figures of Chapter 2 may indicate a growing market interest and acceptance of crypto-integrated devices, indicating a shift in consumer consumption patterns.
