  • The Algorand Foundation CEO’s X account has been compromised.
  • The foundation confirmed the news on Friday.
  • At press time, it seemed like the hacker was still in control of the account.

Algorand Foundation CEO Staci Warden’s X (Twitter) account has been compromised, with the hacker now sharing satirical posts about the ALGO token and Tron founder Justin Sun.

On January 26, the CEO’s account shared an odd message, calling the Algorand community “poor,” while using a racial slur on them. The comment section was locked, prompting users to speculate that someone else besides the CEO had taken over the account.

Hacker Takes Over Algorand CEO’s X Account

About an hour after the post, the Algorand Foundation took to X, informing users that Warden’s account had been compromised. The foundation urged users not to “click on any links on her account or respond to DMs.”

While the foundation said it was “in the process of recovering it,” the attacker seems to be having a field day with the account.

Moments after calling the Algorand community poor, the attacker switched to extreme satire. Besides asking users to be “real” and sell ALGO to buy ETH, the hacker shared a humorous story about how Tron founder Justin Sun would help catapult Algorand to “new heights.”

Mimicking the Algorand CEO, the hacker said they had received a call from “his excellency” Justin who said that he would boost Algorand by “launching TUSD (TRUE USD) and VRUSD (VERY REAL USD)” on the platform.

“And all I had to do was agree to give him total control over our network and allow him to mint any token he pleases to back TUSD. Of course, I accepted this offer immediately. Soon, Algorand will be pegged to VERY REAL USD and a new era of digital commerce will commence,” the hacker wrote.

The hacker then used figurative language to allege that Sun’s projects would be “the next major financial collapse in crypto.” At press time, it seemed like the foundation had not recovered the account as the hacker was still offering a 1 ETH giveaway for “every % ALGO drops this week.”
