A crypto wallet address linked to Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has dumped assorted meme coins and Tetherโ€™s USDT in exchange for Ether.

The meme coins were part of the various crypto assets developers sent to Vitalikโ€™s wallet over the past year, sometimes as a charitable donation, other times as a malicious marketing tool to manipulate traders into believing that the Ethereum co-founder invested in the tokens.

On October 5, blockchain analytics firm EmberCN reported that Vitalikโ€™s wallet sold the memecoins and USDT in exchange for 140.6 ETH, valued at about $340,000 at the current market price.

This included 70.71 million Neiro that Vitalikโ€™s wallet received from the projectโ€™s owner, 11.76 billion MOODENG donated by MoodengCTOETH, 7.8 million DEGEN, 16.03 billion Kabosu, and 100,000 USDT donated by the CATE project.

While Vitalik has yet to clarify why he sold the crypto assets, the MOODENG team wrote to the Ethereum co-founder and urged him to donate the proceeds of the meme coin sale to โ€œcharitable efforts.โ€

โ€œHello dear @VitalikButerin, we noticed that you just sold 21 ETH worth of Moodeng.โ€ The team wrote on X. โ€œAs a community dedicated to charity and bringing real-world value through cryptocurrency, we hope this amount can contribute to your charitable efforts.โ€

Noting that Vitalikโ€™s wallet still held 50 billion MOODENG, valued at over $1 million, the team advised the Ethereum co-founder to put these tokens to โ€œgood use.โ€

Meanwhile, Spot On Chain reported on Saturday that Vitalik donated 100 ETH ($242,000) to the โ€œFree Alexey & Romanโ€ campaign, supporting the legal defense of the Tornado Cash developers.
