  • Trolls say Hoskinson is a cancer on Cardano.
  • Hoskinson disclosed regular attacks on X in particular.
  • Waldo memecoin rug pull stirs new bout of accusations.

Public figures often encounter criticism for their views, but the rise of social media has intensified the scope and frequency of fault-finding in some cases.

Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson recently highlighted how these platforms have magnified the negativity he faces, with recent events pushing him to reconsider how he uses social media in the future.

Cardano Leader Targeted by Online Abuse

After a recent surge in personal attacks, Hoskinson announced plans to disconnect from social media and take a week-long break for his birthday on November 5. This pause, he hopes, will give him space to reflect and recharge away from the online negativity.

Hoskinson said he might adopt a new approach to communicating with the Cardano community, possibly reducing his activity on X. Instead, he plans to shift toward “more productive and curated mediums” that allow for healthier interactions.

Though Hoskinson has dealt with online criticism since Cardano launched in 2017, the recent intensity seems to have affected him more deeply. He expressed that itโ€™s not healthy to face constant abuse and hurtful statements, especially when social mediaโ€™s pervasiveness makes it nearly impossible to ignore.

In a revealing moment, Hoskinson posted a poll on X asking followers, โ€œIs Charles Hoskinson a cancer for Cardano?โ€ Despite the harsh wording, early responses showed support, with 56% voting โ€œNoโ€ as of now.

Waldo Memecoin Rugs Degen Buyers

Hoskinsonโ€™s recent Halloween post, where he dressed up as Waldo, sparked a new wave of attacks, with his playful costume even being exploited to scam memecoin traders.

Soon after the post, an anonymous scammer seized the moment, launching a “Waldo” memecoin. Hoskinson, clearly amused, responded with a dismissive โ€œDegens gonna degen,โ€ a nod to the chaotic and unpredictable nature of memecoins.

However, some mistook Hoskinsonโ€™s comment as an endorsement, coinciding with a 417% trough-to-peak surge in the Waldo coin’s price. Yet the initial excitement was short-lived, as the project was rug-pulled within hours of launch, and trolls took the opportunity to put Hoskinson on blast.

In response, Hoskinson fired back clarifying that โ€œDegens gonna degenโ€ was never an endorsement, while calling out โ€œthe moon boys with dollar signs in their eyesโ€ for falling for the memecoin hype.

On the Flipside

  • Hoskinson has received countless messages of support in response.
  • The UK government jailed individuals for social media posts related to anti-immigration riots.
  • The National Alliance on Mental Health linked depression with physical illness, including cardiovascular and metabolic diseases.

Why This Matters

Hoskinson’s social media hiatus underscores the growing toxicity that public figures must navigate in the digital age and the difficult choices they must make to protect their mental health.
