Solana transactions reportedly reached finality in roughly 400 milliseconds after its Alpenglow upgrade, yet SOL fell after the switch. In the supplied video, a crypto analyst examines that disconnect: a faster network may improve its appeal to payment providers without immediately giving investors a reason to buy.

Fire Hustle places the upgrade’s launch on October 21 and describes SOL trading near $100 afterward. The YouTube video’s central argument is that technical progress remains secondary to broader market conditions and investment flows when it comes to short-term prices.

A faster network, with a measurement wrinkle

According to her, Alpenglow replaced Solana’s TowerBFT voting system, moving validator votes off-chain and reducing finality from about 12.8 seconds to roughly 400 milliseconds in the first day’s data. That remains above the team’s stated 150-millisecond target.

The transition required validators representing at least 82% of staked SOL to approve the new system before user transactions resumed. The analyst describes a brief pause rather than a reported outage, following months of test-network rehearsals.

There is also a software-diversity concern. The YouTube video episode says Firedancer validators could not participate in the switch and temporarily had to return to the main client, leaving the network more dependent on one implementation.

Moving votes off-chain also changes the transaction count displayed by block explorers. “Check what’s actually being counted before you panic,” she says, warning that lower headline transactions-per-second figures need not mean user activity has collapsed.

Outflows weigh more heavily than the upgrade

Fire Hustle reports 12 consecutive trading days of outflows from Solana ETFs and describes October as their worst month for withdrawals since launch. It also cites a roughly 12% weekly decline in open leveraged SOL positions on OKX.

Corporate buyers offered a counterpoint. According to Fire Hustle, DeFi Development Corp. purchased another 22,070 SOL during the decline, while Forward Industries added approximately 949,000 SOL in the quarter ending September.

On the chart, she watches support in the mid-$90s and an initial recovery zone around $110–$115. Those are conditional trading levels, not price forecasts: a weekly break below support could expose the $80s.

In a nutshell: faster settlement could support payment adoption, but sustained usage and a reversal in fund outflows would offer firmer evidence that the upgrade is translating into market demand.
