  • SHIB lead developer Shytoshi Kusama lays out the benefits of a top-level domain.
  • Shibarium devs previously introduced the multifaceted Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI).
  • Customizable .SHIB top-level domains will be registered on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Per the ongoing Shiba Inu’s all-around decentralization quest, the mysterious lead developer stepped in to give an introduction to the Network State. Recently, SHIB Token shook hands with D3 Global, a domain-name-focused Web3 startup, to set up SHIB domains.

Introduced in late 2023, this partnership between SHIB Token and D3 Global aims to bridge the gap between traditional Internet and Web3. Shibarium’s lead developer, Shytoshi Kusama, has now unraveled the plan to tap into the traditional internet infrastructure, which encompasses over five billion people around the globe.

Shiba Inu’s developers are now striving to comply with the domain name system (DNS), which would give SHIB Army access to easy-to-remember cryptocurrency wallet addresses and an all-around sovereign digital identity via the Top Level Domain (TLD).

.SHIB Domains to Open Gates for Decentralized Identity?

The move to get the .SHIB suffix approved as a Top Level Domain (TLD) comes amid a bigger push of decentralization by the developers. To illustrate, SHIB developers issued Shibarium L2 in August of 2023 to create a safe space for the vast community’s builders and detach the popular canine coin SHIB from Ether’s blockchain.

Originating from Ethereum (ETH), SHIB token evolved into a huge community with 3.7 million followers and X, while the native network Shibarium is counting over 275 million on-chain transactions just half a year after launch. Naturally, the size of the community also plays a key part in the decision to include the .SHIB suffix as a top-level domain on DNS.

In case of a successful application approval in the next application cycle, .SHIB domains would let users use the same customized .SHIB addresses across different web browsers, email clients, website builders, and so on. .SHIB domain name can simplify identity verification without taking away personal data ownership.

On the Flipside

  • Getting approved by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is a long and arduous process, which would make SHIB the first-ever crypto community with a Top Level Domain (TLD).

Why This Matters

Top Level Domains have the potential to maximize the chain’s interoperability between different versions of the internet.
