Ex-EA and Unity Execs Move Rooniverse to ImmutableX

ImmutableX’s suite of tools is hard to resist for XP Foundry as the gaming platform continues to expand.

Roos from Rooniverse coming to ImmutableX
  • XP Foundry, a Web3 game studio, has announced that it is migrating the on-chain assets of its free-to-play title Rooniverse to ImmutableX.
  • The developers opted to move from Solana to ImmutableX to leverage the platform’s gas-free minting and growing ecosystem of games.

XP Foundry, led by former Electronic Arts and Unity executives, has shared that it is moving its mobile auto battler game Rooniverse to ImmutableX. Rooniverse will join ImmutableX’s long list of supported game studios led by seasoned veterans.

With the rising number of projects on the platform, ImmutableX’s suite of tools could be hard to resist for most game developers as the platform continues to expand.

Growing the ImmutableX Gaming Ecosystem

Top games like Illuvium and Gods Unchained are some of the many projects using ImmutableX’s arsenal of tools to enhance gaming experiences.  Additionally, there’s a rising trend of seasoned veterans from traditional gaming leading projects.

The gas-free minting, carbon neutrality, Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) support, and growing list of top games in the space are attracting game studios, old and new, to the platform.

Even XP Foundry, led by the former director of technology at Unity Studios, James Finley, has opted for ImmutableX and its extensive list of perks and benefits.

Andrew Sorokovsky, VP of Global Business Development at Immutable, shared,

We are extremely excited that XP Foundry and its debut web3 title Rooniverse are joining the ever-growing ImmutableX family. The partnership will greatly help both Immutable and XP Foundry onboard millions of mobile gamers together with a combination of chaotic fun and frictionless blockchain integrations to support what really matters: ownership, trading, and interoperability."

With the transition of Rooniverse’s asset to ImmutableX, the game will offer numerous user-friendly features, such as faster transaction speeds, zero-free minting for characters, and improved security.

Moreover, XP Foundry will also gain access to ImmutableX’s technical expertise in the Web3 space and the team’s hands-on experience working with other web3 gaming studios through Immutable Gaming Studios.

Germán Palau, XP Foundry’s co-Founder and co-CEO, commented,

There are superb blockchains and L2s out there, but I am a big believer in platforms that niche down and focus on catering to a specific industry segment. Through our many conversations, Immutable has shown us that they clearly 'get it' when it comes to understanding mainstream gamers and getting rid of the 'NFT stigma' that prevents open adoption. We love using blockchain integrations as features for our game, and for this reason, I think we're making the best long-term decision for the game.

What is Rooniverse?

XP Foundry’s Roonivese is a free-to-play top-down hyper-royale mobile game featuring creatures called Roos that players can collect, trade, and battle in PvP game modes. Players can participate in crafting, user-generated content, social gameplay, and more.

Rooniverse can be played on all major platforms, including iOS, Android, PC, and Mac. The game’s open alpha testing is slated for February 2023, with a beta scheduled for Q2 2023, followed by the full game release in Q4 2023.

Engineers and artists from the development team boast AAA credentials in IPs like Sonic the Hedgehog, Game of Thrones, Batman, Call of Duty, Elder Scrolls, and more. James Finley, XP Foundry’s co-CEO and game director, previously worked at Unity Studios and has over 15 years of experience in game direction.

Moreover, XP Foundry’s executive producer, James Chung, is a former art director at EA, working on the original Call of Duty team.

On the Flipside

  • XP Foundry has raised over $1.5 million during its pre-seed funding round. Many sector leaders, including Big Brain Holdings, Magic Eden, and Deep Ventures, are backing the studio.
  • The cheapest Roo costs 4.19 SOL or approximately $21.76. The most expensive Roo costs 101 SOL or roughly $2197.26, according to Magic Eden.
