  • LimeWire introduces a 100,000 LMWR giveaway via a new browser game.
  • The file-sharing client rebranded itself to an NFT marketplace in March 2022.
  • Crypto enthusiasts will have until May 15th, 2023, to test their downloading skills.

The legendary file-sharing service LimeWire is returning to the good old days with a nostalgic in-browser game to test users’ downloading skills. Any crypto enthusiast can participate in the contest, which revolves around trying to remember their favorite movies and songs from the ’90s and early 2000s.

It’s no secret that the entertainment industry experienced a wave of piracy in the early 2000s and throughout the 2010s before the streaming era kicked in. While peer-to-peer file sharing wasn’t exactly legal, it brings about great memories for the millennial generation. LimeWire was often the primary source of entertainment for kids surfing the internet in its early days.

LimeWire to Hold Token Public Sale Next Month

The news of LimeWire’s revival emerged on March 9th, 2022. The founding brothers Julian and Paul Zehetmayr declared that the service would transition into an artist-powering NFT marketplace, where the upcoming artists can regain control of their music distribution and royalties, which are typically highly centralized in today’s music industry.

For this reason, the new version of LimeWire relies heavily on the artist’s experience on the platform. LimeWire NFT marketplace introduced networking tools with the fans, recurring revenue paid by fan subscriptions, and the ability to create ownable content.

On top of that, LimeWire is preparing to publicly launch their native token, $LMWR, on May 2nd, 2023. While the countdown shows 19 days till the main event, the prize pool of the OG LimeWire retro game is set at 100,000 tokens, which will be dished out around two weeks after the initial $LMWR public sale.

On the Flipside

  • While the LMWR token is expected to go live on major cryptocurrency price trackers by the end of May 2023, there’s no information about the approximate price of the upcoming token.
