This time, famed American actor Sydney Sweeney woke up to find her X account hacked. The cybercriminals were quick enough to launch a counterfeit Solana (SOL) meme coin, styled as $SWEENEY.

The hackers dared to make promises about burning 10% of the supply and giving away $10K worth of crypto to followers shortly after.

How Fraudsters Raised $13M In 30 Minutes

In just 30 minutes, the crypto community on X poured approximately $13 million into the token. The meme coin’s price went up by over 2,500% in a quarter of an hour, and what followed was the regular order of events for pump-and-dump scams.

The SWEENEY meme coin quickly crashed back into the zero zone, devastating crypto enthusiasts who bought in. Australian rapper Iggy Azalea fired shots at Sweeney, sarcastically asking: โ€œWhat happened bby? ๐Ÿฅบโ€

After getting her account back, Sweeney immediately deleted all the fraudulent messages but refrained from replying to Azaleaโ€™s comment or clarifying the situation to her followers.

On the Flipside

  • Some crypto traders still decided to ape the new SWEENEY meme coin, knowing that cybercriminals likely created it.
  • By this logic, SOL meme coin traders expected to make some revenue out of the confusion and spontaneous excitement.
  • Rumors on X put the controversial promoter Sahil Ahora at the top of the suspect list despite Sweeneyโ€™s silence.

Why This Matters

Rising celebrity meme coin scams have drawn the attention of prominent crypto figures, as this hacking incident is part of an industry-wide trend.
