Education

David Schwartz grew up long before people felt the need to share every detail of their upbringing or publish their entire history on social media. As a result, little is known about his origins, family background, or childhood.

In 1986, Schwartz began his academic pursuits. He narrowed his focus to electrical engineering, graduating in 1990 from the University of Houston. During these formative years Schwartz began to cultivate his passion for technology, laying the groundwork for his future endeavors. 

While many might have been discouraged by the challenges of this young and untested field, especially during an era marked by the dot-com bubble’s uncertainties, Schwartz remained undeterred. 

His academic journey not only equipped him with technical knowledge and know-how but also sparked a natural curiosity and drive to innovate. It seems only natural that Schwartz would be drawn to Web3 technology decades later.

Early Career

His abilities and knowledge meant he could secure work straight out of the gate, securing entry-level software development roles with household names like RE/MAX. Schwartz hopped between brief roles in other emerging software companies in his early professional career, eventually earning the title of Senior Network Engineer for Worldwide Internet Solutions.

Schwartz’s first serious long-term commitment began when he was employed as Director of Software Management at Webmaster Incorporated. Responsible for everything from managing back-end storage to developing client software, Schwartz climbed the ranks to become the company’s CTO.

After a 13-year tenure at Webmaster Incorporated, the time was ripe for a change. Over the years, Schwartz had developed a keen interest in cryptography. When the opportunity arose to join a nascent startup with an ambitious vision, Schwartz took it.

Ripple Labs

The year was 2011, and Bitcoin fever was gripping the planet. As the tides of the tech world shifted towards decentralized systems and digital currencies, David Schwartz joined a young company that wanted to disrupt the global payments industry. 

Formally joining the company in December 2011, Schwartz became an integral part of Ripple’s evolution, fulfilling the role of Chief Cryptographer and leading the charge as one of the original architects of the XRP Ledger.
