  • The airdrop will feature billions of ZK tokens.
  • Eligible users can claim their tokens starting next week.

The ZKsync Association announced on Tuesday the “mother of all” airdrops amongst major rollups, featuring billions of ZK tokens set to be distributed to eligible users next week.

ZKsync’s airdrop comes a day after the Ethereum Layer network launched ZK Nation, its new community-driven governance structure with three on-chain bodies: the Token Assembly, Security Council, and Guardians.

“Mother of All Drops”

According to a blog post dated June 11, the ZKsync Association is set to airdrop 3,675,000,000 ZK tokens (17.5% of the token’s total supply of 21 billion) to select user groups that meet the eligibility criteria.

This includes ZKsync users who transacted on the protocol and met a threshold activity and developers, researchers, companies, communities, and individuals who contributed to ZKsync’s advocacy and development.

“Eligibility and allocations for the airdrop were based on a snapshot of activity on ZKsync Era and ZKsync Lite taken on March 24th, 2024 at 0:00 UTC, marking the one-year anniversary of ZKsync Era mainnet launch.” The announcement read.

695,232 wallets have been shortlisted for the airdrop, with ZKsync noting that each address will receive a maximum of 100,000 tokens that do not have any vesting or lock-up periods and are “fully liquid on day one.”

Besides facilitating network fee payments using ZKsync’s native account abstraction, the ZK token will allow holders to introduce and vote on protocol upgrades. The protocol said users can claim their airdrop from next week until January 3, 2025, while contributors can claim from June 24.
