Ethereum Layer 2 network ZKSync announced on Monday the launch of ZK Nation, the protocol’s new community-driven governance system.

According to a blog post dated June 10, the ZK Nation governance system consists of three on-chain bodies, including the Token Assembly, Security Council, and Guardians.

Members of the ZKSync Token Assembly will include regular token holders who can vote directly or delegate their voting power over the assembly’s proposals and deliberations to foster a collaborative decision-making process.

At inception, the Guardians governance body will comprise five individuals who will protect the ZK Credo’s values by exercising their veto and initiating or approving emergency actions related to the ZKsync network.

The Security Council will bring together a team of highly technical and skilled engineers, auditors, and cybersecurity professionals to safeguard the ZKsync protocol and network technical security. The team will also provide technical reviews for protocol upgrades passed in by the Token Assembly.

“The Security Council has the power to freeze the ZKsync protocol, or part thereof, in response to imminent or active security threats, such as critical bugs or exploits for various periods of time, and submit necessary time-sensitive protocol upgrades,” ZKSync wrote.

The protocol said that the Security Council team will include 12 of the world’s leading technical experts at its inception.
