XRPL’s Major Upgrade Is Live, But Here’s The Key Issue

Most nodes are still snoozing, judging from the hundreds of them still using the XRP Ledger’s legacy version.

XRPL’s Major Upgrade Is Live, But Here’s The Key Issue

The XRP Ledger’s new version 3.2.0 launched quite a few weeks ago, officially dubbed xrpld. Even though it’s been out for nearly a month, the community behind the whole network isn’t quite buzzing with excitement – here’s why.

Only 43% Of Nodes Have Upgraded So Far

According to the real-time XRP network data, just 357 out of 828 tracked nodes (about 43%) are running the new version. A big chunk is still sitting on v3.1.3. It’s a classic reminder that on XRPL, upgrades don’t happen overnight, especially when the broader community is involved.

Most Validators Are Already On Board

Here’s the good news for XRP Army: the real decision-makers are way ahead. On the Unique Node List (UNL), 31 out of 35 validators (roughly 89%) have already upgraded. That’s well above the 80% threshold that usually signals smooth sailing.

Validators run the show when it comes to amendments and network health, so the core infrastructure is basically ready to roll.

What’s Fresh In XRP Ledger’s v3.2.0?

This isn’t just a name change. The upgrade brings real performance perks:

  • 30–40% lower memory usage (huge for operators running on tighter hardware)
  • A more versatile network stability protocol coming along with improved tools
  • Smoother overall operations saving actual money due to cost-effectiveness

It’s the kind of “boring, but important” upgrade that makes the network stronger behind the scenes.

The Stuck Amendment Holding Things Back

The companion fix (often called fixCleanup3_2_0) is still lagging. It’s sitting at around 68.56% validator support — far from the 80% needed to activate.

Even if it gains momentum, XRPL’s process requires holding that supermajority for about two weeks. Until then, the full benefits of the upgrade stay partially locked.

Validator adoption rates show the network’s leaders are aligned and ready. But the slow XRP Ledger node migration paired with a stalled amendment highlights that XRPL upgrades still rely on community coordination – a great trait of decentralization.

These plumbing improvements rarely spark instant price fireworks, but they quietly strengthen the foundation for bigger things like native lending, DeFi growth, and institutional use.

Right now, XRPL is in that awkward “halfway upgraded” phase. The pieces are falling into place, but patience is still required. Once the amendment clears and more nodes follow, the ledger could feel noticeably snappier and way more efficient.
