  • TON breaks records thanks to DOGS.
  • Users created 4.5M unique wallets in two weeks.
  • TON gears for Catizen and Hamster Kombat airdorps.

The Open Network (TON) has seen a turbulent month. The arrest of Telegram CEO Pavel Durov raised questions about the long-term potential of the network that benefits from its deep integration with the messaging app.

Now, thanks to the TON-based DOGS memecoin airdrop, TON is hitting record numbers. Moreover, the network is gearing up for more airdrops, including popular Catizen and Hamster Kombat.

DOGS Token Airdrop Drives Massive Network Growth on TON

TON is seeing record-breaking numbers thanks to its viral DOGS memecoin. The DOGS token airdrop on the TON blockchain saw 17 million users claim tokens over two weeks, the TON Foundation revealed in an announcement.

The viral airdrop campaign resulted in DOGS being held in 4.5 million unique wallets, making it one of the most widely held tokens. Notably, only USDt on TRON and Ethereum have more unique wallet holders.

This event contributed to a significant increase in TON traffic. For instance, TON daily active addresses hit 1.1 million multiple times. At the same time, the network saw a peak in single-day transaction volume at 14.4 million. What is more, TON expects even bigger events like this soon.

TON Netowork Gears for Catizen and Hamster Kombat Airdrops

Following the DOGS airdrop, TON is gearing up for even bigger traffic surges. Notably, the widely popular TON-based Catizen and Hamster Kombat games are preparing for their airdrops.

These play-to-earn clicker games have attracted millions of users, boosting TON’s metrics. The key to their success was their deep integration into Telegram messenger and ease of use. For these reasons, millions of users have engaged with the app.

Due to Catizen and Hamster Kombat’s popularity, the network is preparing for “tens or even hundreds of millions of users” joining the blockchain for the first time. This will likely significantly strain TON’s infrastructure and TON expects technical pressures and even some technical issues. Still, the increased adoption will likely benefit the network, even as it has to manage the technical challenges.

On the Flipside

  • Due to DOGS token minting and airdrop, TON experienced two major outages in just two days.
  • The upcoming airdrops for Catizen and Hamster Kombat could expose even more limitations in its infrastructure.

Why This Matters

The DOGS airdrop reveals just how much TON benefits from its growing ecosystem, largely due to its integration with Telegram.
