Ripple’s dollar token just crossed a $2.44 billion market cap, with more than $1 billion of that sitting on the native XRP Ledger. Less than two years after launch, RLUSD is being sold as a settlement kit — payments, lending, tokenized-asset cash — not another ticker for the order book.

XRP still runs the ledger. RLUSD is the dollar leg. That split is the strategy.
The Dollar Does The Settling; XRP Keeps The Network
Institutions do not want the unit of account wiggling between trade and settlement. A regulated dollar peg is the tool for that. Tokenized funds, payment flows and corporate treasury sit in the trillions off-chain. Ripple wants a slice of that on-chain, in dollars, on XRPL.
Volatile crypto can juice activity. It is a bad yardstick for an invoice that has to clear at par. That is why Ripple is pairing RLUSD with lending and payments partnerships instead of treating mint-and-list as the whole product.
Two Billion in Supply Isn’t Same As Two Billion in Use
More than half the reported float is on the XRP Ledger. The rest is on other chains, and trackers disagree on the exact print depending on the hour. Treat the $2.44 billion as check-point, not proof that treasurers are wiring payroll on it.
The yield programs and exchange campaigns pulled deposits. They also inflate the “quick tech adoption” headline. Banks and asset managers using RLUSD as a recurring rail would show up in lending books and settlement volume, not in a points season.
That gap matters with U.S. market-structure rules still in committee. A clearer statute helps a regulated stablecoin find institutional desks. Conversely, a further stall leaves Ripple’s product dependent on crypto-native demand.
The big tell is not the next token supply print. It is whether RLUSD keeps turning over in credit, tokenization and payments after the reward campaigns fade. Two billion says the token found holders. Time will tell how this will play out for the sister token.
