Polygon Empowers Nexon to Launch MapleStory NFT Universe

However, this may soon change with the recently announced partnership between South Korean gaming giant Nexon and Polygon.

Nexon to Launch MapleStory NFT Universe on Polygon

The crypto gaming world became excited on Monday when Nexon, one of the largest gaming companies in the world, announced that it is partnering with Polygon (MATIC).

Nexon tapped Polygon to launch one of its most successful games MapleStory Universe. The company will build a dedicated, application-specific Polygon Supernet to customize a blockchain to meet the complex requirements of massively online gaming.

MapleStory Universe group leader Sun-young Hwang said that Polygon is the “perfect choice” to power the MapleStory Universe ecosystem.

“We are looking forward to expanding the NFT ecosystem envisioned by MapleStory Universe by building on Polygon, the top protocol for Web3 gaming. It is the perfect choice to power the ecosystem. We will work closely with the team at Polygon Labs to develop and market the game.”

MapleStory Universe, which boasts over 180 million registered users, currently offers its users to buy and sell in-game items with its Web2 currency. However, with the integration of Polygon, players can earn and collect NFT items through gameplay to unlock various benefits or utilities across the ecosystem.

President of Polygon Labs, Ryan Wyatt said that Nexon choosing Polygon to build the blockchain version of MapleStory Universe “sends a strong message to the entire gaming industry.”
