The group is one of the world’s biggest airline parent companies, with a business interest in Lufthansa, Eurowings, SWISS, Austrian, Turkish, Avianca, and Asiana airlines, among others.

Introducing Customers to New Technologies

The loyalty program, dubbed Uptrip, will allow customers to scan their boarding passes on the airline’s mobile app and exchange them for over 400 NFT trading cards. Customers can then amass these cards into different collections (over 20) and redeem them for flight upgrades, airport lounge access, and award miles, among other rewards.

Lufthansa group noted that it has over 36 million customers on its regular Miles and More loyalty program. They will all be allowed to participate in the NFT program, pushing the nascent Web3 and blockchain technologies to mainstream adoption.

Web3 is in an early stage of development. Curiosity is high. But, we also encounter questions and hesitation – which is where Uptrip hits a nerve. We make it possible for people to access this new technology,” Kristian Weymar, Director of New Business Lufthansa Innovation Hub, said.

According to the announcement, the program has attracted over 20,000 sign-ups and issued more than 200,000 trading cards since its soft launch. While customers can trade the cards on secondary marketplaces, Uptrip will launch its marketplace in the second half of 2023.

Polygon – NFT Powerhouse for Businesses

Polygon has been lauded as the faster and cheaper solution for high-volume transactions compared to the Ethereum mainnet, with the ability to conduct over three million average daily transactions.
