Do Kwon Sent to Jail After Claiming Forged Costa Rican Passport Looks Legit

The latest plot twist in the Terra saga suggests Kwon might be heading for a long stay in Montenegro.

  • Last Friday, Terra’s Do Kwon pleaded not guilty to document forgery charges.
  • Do Kwon accused a Chinese agency, claiming he thought the issuance was real.
  • Leaked viral video shows Kwon and partner Han Chong-joon heading to a local jail.

After a wild year of international pursuit and action movie-style detainment in Podgorica, Do Kwon’s legal troubles take an unexpected turn. The main judge at the Montenegrin Basic Court had enough and pronounced the TerraForm Labs CEO Do Kwon guilty on document forgery charges this Monday afternoon.

Last Friday, Do Kwon’s court hearing ended in complete denial. Kwon refuted document forgery charges, arguing there was no reason to “doubt the authenticity of the passport” as he’d been traveling with it for years. The crypto fugitive also denied political involvement with the Europe Now party leader Milojko Spajić in Montenegro.

Currently, Do Kwon and business partner Han Chong-joon are being transferred to one of Montenegro’s general public prisons, where the downtrodden crypto entrepreneurs will stay for the next four months.

Golden Passport Game Over for Kwon

Interestingly, Kwon told the court he had meant to participate in a golden passport scheme, which had issued the passport. Shortly after, the VIP program turned out to be fake, but Kwon couldn’t remember the Chinese company’s name.

According to this theory, Kwon purchased a ticket to participate in a fast-track scheme to receive citizenship in select countries. Kwon was told that only highly-valued individuals would be able to participate in this scheme.

As if that wasn’t enough, the Belgian and Costa Rican passports were bought from different agencies “recommended by highly-respected friends.” The Costa Rican passport, allegedly issued by a Chinese agency, was found during the dramatic detention while boarding a private jet to Dubai.

On the Flipside

  • TerraForm and Do Kwon’s lawyer team will likely appeal the four-month sentence.
  • Political tie allegations came after Do Kwon received the lower court’s favorable 400,000 Euro bail ruling.

Why This Matters

Many frustrated Terra Luna investors expect to get closure on last year’s financial fiasco.
