Developers of Axie Infinity Reduce Breeding Costs in AXS… But Increase in SLP. Why?

On December 8th, Sky Mavis announced that it would be lowering the price of breeding Axies, Axie Infinity’s in-game pets. Breeding is a gameplay mechanic through which players can create new gaming characters from Axies they already own. Moreover, the rarer the Axies used for breeding, the more unique a new pet users are likely to get.

Two months ago, Sky Mavis halved prices of breeding, which had been 1 AXS or $68.33 at the time, after the game reached $2B revenue in sales. Now, the cost is set to become 0.5 AXS, which is worth $54 at the time of writing.

On the other hand, the cost of breeding in SLP, solely based on the in-game currency, will be tripled. It is perhaps important to note that SLPs price decreased only by half since the announcement. The changes will come into force tomorrow, December 9th, 3:00 a.m. UTC.

Due to the implementation of Katana, Axie Infinity’s in-game crypto exchange, you can decide for yourself in which currency to pay the fees, simply by making an exchange without even leaving the game.
