One of the most anticipated airdrops in the crypto space this year is officially live. Midnight, a data-protection-focused sidechain in the Cardano ecosystem, has launched its Glacier Drop, allowing over 34 million blockchain addresses to claim the network’s native token, NIGHT.

The airdrop claim window opened on August 5 and will remain open for 60 days, closing on October 4. This marks the first phase of a broader NIGHT token rollout.

A Cross-Chain NIGT Airdrop Distribution

Eligible participants span eight major blockchain ecosystems: Cardano, Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, XRP Ledger, BNB Chain, Avalanche, and BAT on Ethereum. The claim portal is available via the official website at claim.midnight.gd.

The response was immediate. According to the Midnight Foundation, more than 11,000 users claimed over 250 million NIGHT tokens within hours of launch. Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson posted on X that he was “blown away” by the early demand and highlighted the scale of the infrastructure behind the drop.

Behind the scenes, the Glacier Drop is powered by Hydra, Cardano’s layer-2 scalability solution. Claims are first routed through Hydra before being finalized on-chain, an approach the foundation says offers better performance, auditability, and cross-chain operability.

How to Claim the NIGHT Airdrop

The NIGHT aidrop claim process involves two steps. Users need to sign a message with their eligible wallet address to prove ownership, then submit a new, unused Cardano address to receive tokens. Full instructions and supported wallet lists are available on the portal.

The Glacier Drop is just phase one. Midnight plans to follow it with Scavenger Mine and a Lost-and-Found phase, both aimed at expanding access and ensuring broad, verifiable distribution across communities.

On the Flipside

  • Some ADA holders using Ledger wallets hit a snag during the NIGHT airdrop due to message size limits in Ledger’s software. Midnight says a fix is on the way and users won’t lose their spot by waiting.

Why This Matters

While the Glacier Drop functions as a token distribution event, it also serves as a real-world test of Cardano’s infrastructure and Midnight’s underlying technology. Its success could inform future approaches to cross-chain, privacy-focused token delivery at scale.
