Did Biden Switch His Stance on Bitcoin?
Previously, Joe Biden claimed that Bitcoin mining lacks efficiency due to the high carbon emission rates. Indeed, the latest studies on Bitcoin mining emission intensity have shown a stunning 52% in carbon emissions over the last four years.
The scientific study by Bitcoin-dedicated Environmental Specialist Daniel Batten points to consumption of 284 g/kWh as of January 2024, compared to 601 g/KWh in January 2020. The efficiency improvement in the last four years is significantly larger than the traditional banking sectorโs, managing to reduce emissions by 2.9% in the same time frame.
Coinciding with Bidenโs laser-eyed message, this could imply a positive shift in the Presidential administrationโs outlook on the leading digital asset. However, itโs fair to say that Biden didnโt clarify the meaning behind the stunning message or respond to any of the crypto aficionadoโs comments.
