Four South Korean financial institutions have signed agreements with Ripple within six months, according to Kamilah Stevenson, a wealth-focused market commentator tracking the company’s expansion.

Her latest video points to an insurer, an internet bank, a regional lender and a securities firm as evidence of growing institutional interest, but their involvement does not necessarily translate into XRP demand.

The most consequential detail is the emphasis on custody. Three of the four arrangements begin with infrastructure for safeguarding digital assets, rather than cryptocurrency trading or payments.

Custody Comes Before the Bigger Bets

Dr. Kamilah Stevenson says Kyobo Life agreed in April to test holding, transferring and settling tokenized Korean government bonds using Ripple Custody. The stated objective is to shorten settlement from roughly two days to something closer to immediate execution.

K Bank followed at the end of April, selecting Ripple Custody to develop digital-asset wallets for institutional clients, according to the video. A regional bank then adopted Ripple Payments in August for cross-border business transfers.

The fourth agreement involves Meritz Securities, which the commentator describes as Ripple’s first Korean securities-firm partner. Its work will focus on custody and tokenization, with potential interests including spot crypto ETFs, fractional investments, security tokens and won-backed stablecoins.

ā€œWhere does it sit and who’s responsible for keeping it safe?ā€ the host asks, arguing that custody approvals lay the groundwork for subsequent products. That is the video’s central thesis: institutional adoption starts with operational controls, not necessarily a tradable token.

The XRP Connection Still Needs Qualification

Dr. Kamilah Stevenson identifies February 4, 2027, as the effective date for new Korean legislation covering tokenized securities, and cites a November 11 deadline for public comments on proposed rules. Those dates are presented as a potential catalyst, although the transcript does not independently establish the regulatory timetable.

For XRP investors, the distinction between Ripple’s business and XRP usage crucially matters. Ripple Payments can use XRP for currency conversion, but the YouTube video does not establish that the Korean bank’s payment flows actually do.

Sharing a ledger, however, does not mean every exchange between stablecoins must route through XRP. The agreements suggest broader institutional interest in digital-asset infrastructure; their effect on XRP demand will depend on which services reach production and how transactions are settled.
