Zcash Price Hits 10-Year High as Paradigm and NU7 Upgrade Boost Rally
  • ZEC surged from roughly $470 to over $1,500 in about a month.
  • Grayscale’s spot Zcash ETF and Paradigm’s disclosed ZEC holdings boosted demand.
  • The NU7 network upgrade targets mainnet activation on November 5.

Zcash price surged above $1,500 on September 18, 2026, extending a roughly 215% rally from around $470 in mid-August. ZEC was up more than 10% over 24 hours and 46% over the past week as institutional demand, short liquidations and anticipation surrounding Zcash’s NU7 network upgrade fueled the move.

Zcash Price Rally: Why ZEC Is Surging

Several catalysts converged over the past month to drive ZEC’s rally. Grayscale’s spot Zcash ETF (ZCSH), which launched on August 25, has attracted significant institutional inflows, reportedly surpassing $500 million in assets under management by mid-September. The product gave traditional brokerage investors regulated exposure to ZEC for the first time without requiring self-custody.

Leverage also played a role: the move above $1,000 triggered a wave of short liquidations, with roughly $34 million in short positions wiped out on September 4 alone, according to market data.

Paradigm Holdings Add to Demand

Renewed demand for privacy-focused crypto assets has also lifted ZEC alongside other privacy coins.

Matt Huang, co-founder of Paradigm, also disclosed that the investment firm holds ZEC, describing the cryptocurrency as a privacy-focused counterpart to Bitcoin.

The disclosure added to the market’s institutional narrative around Zcash, although it does not by itself establish that Paradigm’s comments caused the subsequent price gains.

NU7 Upgrade: What It Means for Zcash

Adding to the bullish backdrop, Zcash’s core development organizations, including the Zcash Foundation, Project Tachyon, Valar Group, ZODL, and Shielded Labs, unanimously agreed on a timeline for the network’s NU7 upgrade.

Testnet activation is scheduled for October 6, with a final mainnet go/no-go decision on October 20 and activation targeted for November 5.

The NU7 upgrade is expected to reduce Zcash’s block time from 75 seconds to 25 seconds while maintaining the existing halving schedule. The November 5 mainnet date remains subject to the October 20 go/no-go decision following the testnet phase.

A proposal, however, received 99.9% support from ZEC voters in community polling.

Zcash Price Today

Zcash (ZEC) is trading at approximately $1,500 as of September 18, 2026, up more than 10% over the past 24 hours and 46% over the past seven days.

ZEC has climbed from approximately $470 in mid-August, putting the cryptocurrency among the year’s strongest-performing major digital assets.

Zcash Price Levels to Watch

After breaking above $1,000, ZEC has moved rapidly into the $1,500 area. The $1,300–$1,250 zone could become an important technical area if the cryptocurrency pulls back, while a sustained move above the recent high would leave the market looking toward higher historical price levels.

ZEC remains well below its 2016 all-time high of $3,191.93, despite the recent rally.

Why This Matters

For the Zcash price, the next major catalysts are likely to be continued ETF demand, positioning in the derivatives market and progress toward the NU7 upgrade. The October 6 testnet activation and October 20 go/no-go decision will provide two near-term checkpoints ahead of the targeted November 5 mainnet activation.
