Midnight plans to let users trade against liquidity on Ethereum and other EVM-compatible networks, rather than build its trading markets entirely from scratch. In a video reviewing the project’s six-month roadmap, crypto commentator Linda highlighted cross-chain access as one of the proposals most likely to attract users and capital.

The roadmap also includes NIGHT staking, private lending and tokenized financial assets. Much of that remains prospective: staking is scheduled for Q1 2027, and reward rates have not been disclosed.

Borrowing liquidity, keeping trades private

According to Linda’s account, Midnight’s planned DeFi products include native token swaps and a feature called “night mode,” designed to access liquidity on connected blockchains. Ethereum and other EVM-compatible chains would be connected initially, with additional networks expected in early 2027.

That approach addresses a practical obstacle for new networks: thin liquidity can make trading expensive or unattractive. Access to established markets could reduce that problem, although the video provides no execution costs or performance figures.

Linda describes Midnight’s positioning as the “VPN for DeFi.” She says private orders would prevent bots from seeing trades in advance and jumping ahead of them—a proposed benefit, rather than a protection demonstrated in the video.

Another planned feature would let users send trade offers through Telegram, Discord or email, with both sides settling automatically on-chain once accepted. Cross-chain support for those offers is also described as coming next year.

One collateral deposit, multiple connected networks

The proposed “Collateral Warehouse” is another potentially significant development. Linda says users would deposit collateral once and use it across connected blockchains without moving those funds through bridges. The video does not detail how borrowing limits, liquidations or cross-chain risk would work.

A separate private lending market would allow users to lend assets or borrow against crypto collateral while keeping position details private. In Q1 2027, Cardano stake pool operators are also expected to begin producing Midnight blocks alongside the launch of NIGHT staking.

For institutions, the roadmap includes tokens with private balances and transfers, work on tokenized bank deposits, and expansion into investment funds, credit products and property in Q1 2027.

For investors, the distinction is between announced capabilities and functioning markets. Cross-chain liquidity could make Midnight useful sooner, but staking economics, collateral safeguards and actual demand remain unanswered.
