Crypto conferences bring together participants to network, exchange ideas, and showcase the latest innovations. Token2049 in Singapore, which kicked off on September 18, seeks to deliver on this promise with notable figures like Anatoly Yakovenko, Arthur Hayes, Richard Teng, and Balaji Srinivasan taking the stage.

But it’s not the latest innovations or big announcements making waves at Token2049; it’s Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin’s unexpected singing performance that has stolen the spotlight.

Vitalik’s Unexpected Serenade Sets the Tone

Vitalik’s surprise singing at Token2049 stole the show, proving his skills extend far beyond blockchain. The performance was a nostalgic throwback to his iconic Ethereum rap at EDCON in Sydney in 2019.

This time, the crypto wunderkind entertained the audience with a medley of performances, including an original song about crypto’s transformation into a new form of wealth.

But the show didn’t end there. Buterin ventured into foreign language territory with a surprise cover that puzzled many. Sharp-eared attendee Samantha Yap, founder of Yap Global, recognized the track as a song from the beloved Japanese animation Castle in the Sky.

Ethereum to Zero?

Vitalik’s musical interlude sparked mixed reactions across the crypto community, reflecting the industry’s wide range of perspectives. Yap applauded the performance, saying, “This is how you make Ethereum delightful again ✨.”

The MoonPay team, however, was disappointed to hear Ethereum’s visionary leader singing at the expense of learning direct insights into the project’s latest developments.

Others quickly jumped to write Ethereum’s obituary after Vitalik’s musical performance, claiming it was a top signal marking the project’s end or predicting that ETH was headed to zero.

However, history offers a sobering perspective on such dire predictions. When the Ethereum rap dropped in 2019, many naysayers similarly claimed ETH was headed to zero. But ETH surged over 3,100%, hitting its $4,900 all-time high in November 2021.
