The Next Gala Games to Rise in 2022? Onessus Promised Games, Amazon, and Twitch on Blockchain

Onessus is an ecosystem featuring games, an online marketplace for both physical and virtual items, and a game streaming service, all connected by one token ecosystem – VOID.

The crypto gaming industry has seen several booming giants this year. Among them, were Yield Guild Games, Mythical Games, Animoca Brands, Dapper Labs, and of course, Gala Games. The latter became a one-stop-shop, uniting blockchain developers, NFT marketplaces, gaming publishers, small metaverses, and token ecosystems under one roof.

Perhaps more significantly, Gala Games became the first of its kind. Usually developers tend to focus on one specific feature, and then polish it until it’s dazzling in order to create a selling point for their product. For example; Enjin is a universal gaming network and NFT ecosystem open to all; Yield Guid Games is a gaming guild providing scholarships and NFT characters for rent; Animoca Brands is one of the biggest crypto gaming investors; and so on.

Surfing the web, I happened across one curious project that is providing more unique functionality.

Onessus: Gaming Studio + Amazon and Twitch on Blockchain

Tons of new blockchain projects appear in the crypto gaming industry every day. Some of them are trying to reinvent pre-existing, well-working concepts, which, for example, is why the crypto games market is flooded with virtual pet games. It may well be less risky, but you never know when the tipping point will happen.

On the other hand, unique ideas always carry more risk with them. They usually require much more effort to produce the final product, and therefore higher development costs. On the other hand, being a pioneer is courageous, because they often proceed in relative “darkness,” treading new ground at each step.

Onessus Games: GTA-esque NiftyVille and the HodlGod Battle Royale

It was only a matter of time until we got another Grand Theft Auto stylized game based on blockchain. The concept of an open-world sandbox is very attractive at first glance. Unfortunately for most, Decentraland and The Sandbox have already claimed the spotlight in that particular field. On the other hand, there is Polka City, which provides a relatively similar experience to what the NiftyVille is.

Let’s be honest NiftyVille does have more attractive visuals than Polka City. The colours are more vivid, and the style is less realistic, which makes it look like the recently released ‘Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy.’ I do hope that both NiftyVille and Polka City will become exciting games in the future.

On the other hand, HodlGod is something entirely new to the crypto gaming industry. The game is a battle royale with gameplay similar to Dark Souls. This is the great combination, in my humble opinion. There are an endless amount of battle royales in the shooter and beat’em’up genres, However, the concept of Dark Souls focuses on the aspects of fencing and dodging, which slows down gameplay, but makes it similar to Esports.

The VOID Market for Everything and Gaming Streaming Service

The second aspect of the Onessus ecosystem is the creation of two platforms on blockchain. VOID Market is slated to be a decentralized marketplace for both virtual and physical goods, such as Amazon or Ebay. The other platform is to be a stream-to-earn gaming service, like Twitch or YouTube. More information on each is available in the official whitepaper of the VOID token.

On The Flipside

  • The core team currently consists only of two people: Dante Scott and Jon Scott, who are father and son. They haven’t yet revealed the whole team though, which of course begs the question “why?” On the other hand, the team on the landing page for the token itself is bigger.
  • The roadmap on the official website of the token hasn’t been updated since 2019. The token is also not yet listed on either CoinMarketCap, or CoinGecko. The developers have also not provided any deadlines for listings.

Conclusion

Onessus has all the makings of a top project that could explode during the next year if everything is handled correctly. This means solving all of the problems with the token’s ecosystem, and providing clarity. Their ideas for blockchain gaming are extremely promising, so let’s wait for more announcements and upgrades in order to make a final decision.
