On the first day of July, Binanceโ€™s founder Changpeng โ€˜CZโ€™ Zhao revealed his latest philanthropic deed to the public. A $10 million donation to Ethereum (ETH) founder Vitalik Buterinโ€™s biotech project was met with appreciation from Vitalik himself, who also thanked Polygonโ€™s (POL) co-founder Sandeep Nailwal.

Vitalik Buterin: From SHIB To Shade?

Despite the good intentions of Vitalik, the message could have been perceived as a lack of appreciation by some. Kaal Dhairya, a highly prominent member of the developer team behind Shibarium, has chimed in to correct the Ethereum founder, reminding him of who helped to establish the Corona relief fund, now known as Blockchain For Impact (BFI).

โ€œSince Vitalik Buterin forgot to mention the billion in SHIB tokens that actually funded Crypto Relief, let me help complete his tweet. Youโ€™re welcomeโ€, – ironically touted the Shibarium L2 developer. Indeed, the Shiba Inu (SHIB) dev is referring to the 50% of initial 999T Shiba Inu (SHIB) supply that was allocated to ETH founder Vitalik Buterinโ€™s crypto wallet.

Backstory Of Shiba Inuโ€™s Relief Fund

Back in 2020, Vitalik Buterin helped fund the Crypto Relief with approximately half of his allocated 500T stash, while burning the other half as the first Shiba Inu burning initiative. This has definitely set off a positive example, as now the SHIB supply has been reduced to 584.55 trillion coins.

However, Vitalik Buterinโ€™s reluctance to acknowledge the SHIB Armyโ€™s impact in the crypto relief fund has left the Shiba Inu community wondering what happened behind the scenes: was there a fallout between the prominent devs? The dog embossed meme coin Shiba Inu didnโ€™t react to the news in any major way, as SHIBโ€™s price remained at consolidation.

On The Flipside

  • Based on the comments on X, many other strong voices in the Shiba Inu community see Vitalikโ€™s fading of SHIB as selling out.

Why This Matters

Shibariumโ€™s huge success as a Layer-2 network can be majorly ascribed to the loyal & vibrant community behind it. For the past few years, Shiba Inu had a similar following on social media to Dogecoin, making it a contender for snatching the top dog coinโ€™s name in the future.

What was the actual donation to Crypto Relief in India?

In 2021, SHIBโ€™s creator Ryoshi sent Vitalik 500 trillion SHIB tokens, and he donated most of itโ€”worth billionsโ€”to CryptoRelief for pandemic relief. Vitalik later burned 410 trillion SHIB, boosting the tokenโ€™s value.

Whyโ€™s the SHIB community upset?

Vitalik recently thanked Binanceโ€™s CZ for a $10M BNB donation but didnโ€™t shout out the community’s historic gift, making the community feel ignored. Kaal Dhairyaโ€™s post was a spicy reminder of SHIBโ€™s role.

How does this affect SHIBโ€™s rep?

The shade highlights the Japanese guard dog-embossed crypto’s major impact on crypto philanthropy, boosting its cred despite being a meme coin. Itโ€™s a flex that could grow the SHIB Army further.

Whatโ€™s next for Shiba Inu after this?

The SHIB team, led by Shytoshi Kusama, is pushing Shibarium and โ€œJul-AIโ€ projects, aiming to grow the ecosystem. This spat might fuel more community-driven hype to keep SHIB in the spotlight.
