- Representative French Hill visited Tigran Gambaryan in Nigeria.
- Another lawmaker accompanied Hill.
- The visit ended in calls for Tigran’s “immediate” release.
United States Congressman French Hill has revealed his recent visit with Tigran Gambaryan, Binance’s head of financial crime compliance, who has been detained in Nigeria since February.
Accompanied by U.S. Representative Chrissy Houlahan, Hill found out that Tigran was suffering from Malaria and double pneumonia. The lawmaker expressed concerns about Tigran “being denied access to adequate medical attention” while at Kuje Prison.
Hill Backs Tigran, Calls for His Release
In an X (Twitter) post, Congressman Hill described Tigran as a professional who has devoted his life to fighting money laundering and tax evasion, including at the IRS, where he spent a decade leading cyber and financial crime investigations.

“Further, at the time of his arrest, he was working as a contract employee at Binance and was instrumental in criminal investigations and compliance in cooperation with Nigerian authorities,” Hill stated.
While Hill stated that he was “pleased” that Nigeria dropped tax evasion charges against Tigran on June 14, he faulted the country for continuing to detain the exec on money laundering charges and urged his release.
“Tigran must be immediately granted a humanitarian release, the remaining charges dropped, and he must return home to America where he belongs,” Hill wrote.
Hill’s visit with Tigran comes after the lawmaker joined a letter with 17 other colleagues to President Biden’s administration on June 4, urging for the exec’s “immediate release.” On June 6, over 100 former federal prosecutors and agents asked the government to “use all means available” to secure Tigran’s release.
