
In celebration of its 10th anniversary, the Ethereum Foundation has revealed its long-term upgrade plan called the Ethereum Lean Plan. This visionary roadmap aims to enhance the blockchain’s performance, security, and decentralization over the next decade.
Building Resilience Against Future Threats
According to an official statement, a central pillar of the roadmap is Ethereum’s resilience, especially against emerging threats such as nation-state attacks and the future risk of quantum computing.

This resilience is encapsulated in the concept “fort mode,” which aims to ensure Ethereum remains online as long as the internet exists.
Ethereum Foundation plans to integrate advanced post-quantum cryptography and lean consensus protocols designed to deliver transaction finality within seconds.
Focus on Aggressive Scaling
The roadmap also commits to an aggressive scaling strategy. The Ethereum Foundation aims to adopt an aggressive “beast mode” approach, targeting 10,000 transactions per second (TPS) on Layer 1 and up to 1 million TPS on Layer 2 within 6 to 12 months.
To realize these goals, Ethereum will undergo major upgrades across its three fundamental layers: consensus, data, and execution. Key technical initiatives include the rollout of Beacon Chain 2.0 for faster and more secure consensus, Blobs 2.0 to enhance data handling with post-quantum security features, and EVM 2.0, designed to improve execution efficiency.
A cornerstone of this vision is the adoption of hash-based cryptography to address quantum threats and support advances like succinct non-interactive arguments of knowledge (SNARKs).
Ethereum has operated without any downtime since it launched and currently secures about $130 billion worth of value from 35.7 million ETH staked. The foundation believes this amount could grow to $1 trillion, which would be nearly 30% of the entire crypto market.
