Chinaโs Center for Information and Industry Development (CCID) has published its 17th Global Blockchain Technology Assessment Index, pushing Bitcoin even lower than it was a few months ago.
The ranking is updated every two months and currently rates 37 global well-known blockchains. CCID evaluates projects on various parameters, that include performance of basic technology, applicability, and the type of innovation.
Bitcoin’s further decrease
According to the latest data, EOS remains at the top of the best performing blockchain list. TRON follows with the second place and Ethereum (ETH) is ranked to be third. The top three blockchains remained the same as in the previous index reports.

In addition, some other blockchains witnessed a more severe rise and falls. NULS jumped to 6th place compared with the previous 10th, while Dash climbed 5 spots up to the 10th position. BitShares accordingly jumped to 13th place from its 24th where it was two months ago.
Meanwhile, the worldโs leading Bitcoin (BTC) was ranked 14th. This is 3 positions lower than it was in a previous index. STEEM project, however, witnessed the biggest fall, dropping 10 spots down to 15th position.
Separate criteria indicate different leaders
The evaluation based on basic technology mainly explores the technical realization level of the particular blockchain. The researchers examine the blockchainโs functions, performance, security and decentralization indicators. According to this specification, EOS is on top of the list, followed by TRON and IOS.
However, the basic technology index is slightly lower than previously.
The next criteria – applicability – evaluates the level of the actual support applications and includes aspects like node deployment, wallet application, development support, and application implementation. To this parameter, Ethereum maintained the first place, while TRON and Nebulas were ranked second and third respectively.
Meanwhile, in terms of creativity or innovation, Bitcoin was ranked the 1st with a score of 42.4. That marks the significant difference from EOS, which met the innovation parameter with 29.1 sub-index points and become the second, leaving Ethereum in third place with 29.0 points. Compared to the last data, the innovation index has increased.
The Global Blockchain Technology Evaluation Index is organized and implemented by Chinaโs Center for Information and Industry Development (CCID). The Blockchain research institution is backed by China’s government and provides blockchain evaluation data every two months since 2018.
