Brazilian oil giant Petrobras is applying two new utility cases for Cardano’s Layer-1 (ADA) blockchain. Those are tied to sustainable aviation fuel, keeping track of the company’s product progress. One of the most interesting ones is Petrobra’s Diesel R, a renewable energy modification of diesel that’s supposed to make fuel cheaper & more environmentally-friendly.

Petrobras are using Cardano-based dApps to track data in relation to the process of tracing lower-carbon fuels much more efficiently. On Friday, the Cardano Foundation announced that it had worked with Petrobras and the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro’s blockchain research center, Ledger Labs. Here’s the two main ADA applications.
Two Cornerstones Of ADA’s Adoption In Renewable Energy
Firstly, the blockchain aims to solve the challenge of who’s eligible to claim a piece of the environmental benefits in accordance with the sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). Cardano’s chain works as a layer of audit, matching the permanent records on-chain for fair distribution.
“The energy transition will depend as much on trust as it does on new fuels. As value chains become more complex, proving where environmental data comes from, how it moves, and who can rely on it becomes critical”, says Rafael Fraga, Cardano’s LATAM Business Development Lead.
Secondly, the follow-up utility case is centered around data generated at different stages of the fuel’s lifecycle. The system links a broader cover of production, transportation & public application of the renewable fuel energy.
Whether it’s Petrobra’s Diesel R or the sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), that could help shape the new renewable diesel model to max efficiency.
