Jim Carrey is Bidding His Second NFT Painting

Hollywood actor and comedian Jim Carrey has just debuted his latest NFT on SuperRare platform.

Artwork Still Has No Owner

Carrey’s newest multimedia work is called Goon In Moonlight, which depicts a being avoiding the moonlight while the artist reads a poem on loneliness and lost love. Big Head Club co-produced the digital animation, featuring the vocals of Carrey’s daughter Jane.

According to the description on the SuperRare platform, the artwork is:

“In the unavoidable romance of moonlight, the Goon is doomed to recoil from memories of lost loves and the agony of regret that can transform any one of us into something loathsome in our own mind.”

The 48-hour auction started on August 9 and ended on August 11. The artwork was configured for a Reserve auction. This means that there is a minimum price that a seller would be willing to accept from a buyer. It seems that the reserve price was not met, as the piece of artwork on the SuperRare platform still belongs to Carrey at the time of writing.

Not the First NFT Creation

Goon In Moonlight is not the first NFT art introduced by Carrey. His first experiment in the NFT world was the piece called Sunshower, which sold for 62.04 ETH.

The NFT, titled Sunflower, is based on the actor’s painting and is accompanied by an original voice-over, which was produced by filmmaker David Bushell.

The actor announced his first NFT creation via Twitter:

“I’ve been both blessed and cursed in this life with a vivid imagination and a burning desire to share my peculiarities and inspirations with you.”

Entering the World of Visual Arts

Throughout Trump’s presidency, Carrey regularly created political cartoons, which he would post on Twitter. Over 100 of those works were exhibited in 2018 at Maccarone Gallery in Los Angeles.

“I had merely begun to experiment with bringing my art to life through simple animations, when the NFT world opened up. To me there could never be enough new places to create,” said Carrey.

Carrey reveals that he began painting in 2011 as a “way to heal a broken heart.” His work and process were featured in a 2017 short documentary, called I Needed Color:

“I think what makes someone an artist is they make models of their inner life. They make something come into physical being that is inspired by their emotions or their needs or what they feel the audience needs,” says Carrey in the film.

On the Flipside

Jim Carrey is only one of many successful actors involved in the NFT space. In January, fellow actor Johnny Depp released 11,111 NFT portraits titled “Never Fear Truth.”
