U.S. Football Player Odell Beckham Jr. Will Receive NFL Salary in Bitcoin

In addition to the Bitcoin payment announcement, Beckham also stated in the tweet that he’ll be giving away $1 million in Bitcoin.

The most recent addition to the Los Angeles Rams’ team roster – wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. – tweeted on Monday that he will receive the remainder of his salary for the 2021-22 season in Bitcoin. Beckham issued the tweet below to his 4.1 million Twitter followers.

Based on performance bonuses and milestones, he could earn up to $4.5 million as part of his one-year deal with his new team. Earlier this month, the receiver was released from the Cleveland Browns and was picked up by the Rams.

In addition to the Bitcoin payment announcement, Beckham also stated in the tweet that he’ll be giving away $1 million in Bitcoin to celebrate his fans in a promotional drawing in partnership with Cash App.

Beckham began his NFL career with the New York Giants, where he made three straight Pro Bowl appearances and won the Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2014 when he first joined the league and set several records, which still stand today.

On The Flipside

  • To be clear, Beckham’s Bitcoin giveaway to fans is part of a promotion with Cash App to drive individuals to download and sign-up with the app to be eligible to enter the giveaway.
  • It’s extremely unlikely that Beckham is giving fans his own money. The award amount is being provided to Beckham as promotional consideration to give away under the conditions of this marketing campaign.
